Getting Started with Daminion Web Client

(This feature is available for Daminion Server editions only!)

Once you have installed and activated the Web Client in Daminion, you can open your shared catalogs through the web browser. For instructions on how to do this, please refer to Activating Web Access.

Firstly, before you log on, you’ll need to create a username and password in the Daminion User Management window. For instructions on how to do this, please refer to User Management.

After you have logged on successfully, the Web Client will open the shared catalog in your web browser.

Overview of Web Client Workspace

In terms of interface and the way they work, Web Client and Daminion Desktop Client are quite similar.

Toolbar

 The toolbar runs across the top of the Web Client workspace.

2016-11-29_181248           Click this icon to display the Tags panel on the left side of the workspace.

2016-11-29_181258 Enter the tag you’re looking for in the Search box. Please read the article Searching and Filtering in Web Client to learn more about how these options work in Daminion Web Client.

2016-11-29_181311  Click the three small dots in the upper right-hand corner to open a drop-down                menu with more features (see screenshot below).

 

2016-11-29_181323Click A to import files by specifying a file path or by dragging and dropping the respective files directly onto the window that opens. The size and the uploading status of each file are displayed next to its name.

Click B to create new collections and manage existing ones. For more information, please refer to “Working with collections

Click C  to create and delete users and to adjust their access rights. To learn more about how user management works in Web Client please refer to the article “User Management in Web Client”.

Click  D to adjust the catalog interface to your brand. For how to do this, please read the article “Customizing Web Client’s Interface”

Click e to log out of the catalog as soon as your work session is over. It is very important that you do this when working with multiple logons. If you don’t, other users may be denied access to the catalog because all the available connections appear to be in use.

Note: When the browser is zoomed in, the Add file and Collections options are displayed under the three dots drop-down menu; when zoomed out, they are displayed on the toolbar.

 

Status Bar

The Status Bar is just below the toolbar.

Shows the total number of items displayed.

Click the down arrow to select a sort mode. Once it is selected, an additional icon 2016-11-29_181423appears on the status bar. Click this icon to change the sort order from ascending to descending and vice versa.

Changes the display mode in the browser window. You can select between three modes: thumbnail mode, thumbnail mode with caption (file name, file size, image dimensions and file format) and grid mode.

When one or more images are selected, the following items appear in the status bar:

Shows the number of files selected and clears the selection.

 2016-11-29_181432Actions opens a drop-down menu that lets you choose whether to download the selected items as a compressed ZIP-file, edit the tags of these files or delete them from the catalog and from the disc (by selecting the respective option in the Delete dialog).

Opens the selected files in a separate window.

 

Browser Window

The Browser Window is the central area of the Web Client workspace, where all items are displayed.

 

 

Hovering the mouse over an item’s thumbnail reveals additional symbols.

 

 

       Share a file

symbol1Opens the Tag Editor.

Downloads the item onto your local drive.

Opens the item in an external application. You’ll need to activate this feature just once before you can use it. For instruction on how to do this, please refer Installing the Daminion Web-Client Assistant

symbol4     Check box for selecting multiple items.

 

Tags Panel

Navigate through your categorized tags in the Tags Panel – displayed by default on the left-hand side of the browser window.

 Select which tags to display. Click the little gear icon, check the tags you want to display and save your selection.

Click the tag header to expand tag values and check one or more tag values to display the items assigned to them. The number to the right indicates how many items will be shown if an additional search condition is selected.

Shows currently selected tags. Left-clicking these tags removes them from filtering.

 Shows the number of items found.

 

Click the 11  icon to hide the Tags panel and the 111 icon to display it again (this icon appears on the toolbar when the Tags panel is closed).
