Backup and Restore Shared Catalogs

Daminion offers two different types of catalogs: “Local Catalogs” and “Shared Catalogs“.
You can recognize local catalogs by its file extension DMC. These catalogs are separate files and are used locally on your computer. A backup of local catalogs is relatively simple, since you just have to save this one catalog file.

Shared Catalogs are part of a Daminion Postgres database. This is therefore less a single file that contains all the information, but more a part of a database that can be combined into a multi-user catalog. These include, for example, all created Daminion users and their assigned roles. To secure these shared catalogs Daminion offers a backup feature that is described here below.

Backup of your shared catalog
With the backup feature in Daminion you can quickly and easily create backups of your catalogs to restore them at any time if necessary.

Please note that this backup function only backs up the catalogs and the information contained therein and not your original files. These must be backed up separately with a suitable backup program. Daminion stores in its catalogs only references to the original files and only those references and metadata information is saved with the catalog!

1 – Performing a Catalog-Backup

Launch the Daminion Server Administration dialog.
Navigate in the file menu to „Administration“ -> „Catalogs…“. This launches the Catalogs Manager.

During the backup process a total of 4 backup files are created in the target folder specified previously by you:

_daminion(numbers).backup  –>  (Backup File of the user database)
_daminion(numbers).log  –>  (Log-File of the user database)
NetCatalog(numbers).backup  –>  (Backup File of the catalogs data)
NetCatalog(numbers).log  –>  (Log- File of the catalogs data)

Once the backup is complete, you can close all dialogs.
