Backup and Restore Shared Catalogs

Daminion offers two types of catalog: Local Catalogs and Shared Catalogs.
You can recognize local catalogs by the file extension DMC. These catalogs are separate files that are used locally on your computer. It is relatively simple to back up local catalogs, since you only have to save the one catalog file.

Shared Catalogs are part of a Daminion Postgres database. To protect these shared catalogs, Daminion offers the backup feature described below.

Back up your shared catalog

Daminion’s backup feature allows you to quickly and easily create backups of your catalogs so that you can restore them at any time.

Please note that this backup function only backs up the catalogs and the information contained therein and not your original files. These must be backed up separately with a suitable backup program. In its catalogs, Daminion stores only the references to the original files – so only the references and the metadata are saved with the catalog!

 1 – Performing a Catalog-Backup

Launch the Daminion Server Administration panel.
On the file menu, under Administration click Catalogs to launch the Catalogs Manager.

Start_2_ENG

From the list, select the catalog you want to back up, then click the Actions button and select Backup from the drop-down menu.

This opens the Backup dialog box. Enter the location of your backup destination folder and click Start.

As your catalog information is backed up, you can watch its progress in a separate window.

During the backup process, 4 backup files are created in the target folder that you specified:

_daminion(numbers).backup  –>  (Backup File of the user database)
_daminion(numbers).log  –>  (Log-File of the user database)
NetCatalog(numbers).backup  –>  (Backup File of the catalog data)
NetCatalog(numbers).log  –>  (Log- File of the catalog data)

Once the backup is complete, you can close all the dialog boxes.

2 – Perform catalog recovery

Launch the Daminion Server Administration panel.
On the file menu, under Administration click Catalogs to launch the Catalogs Manager.

Click Actions and, from the drop-down menu, select Restore.

Start_4_ENG

This will open the Restore dialog box.

This dialog box allows you to choose which information to restore: only the catalog data, only the user database, or both.
Select the desired backup file and click OK. Catalog and user data are saved separately.
